Irish Firm Develops New Accessory for Insulin Pens

Yet another breakthrough for the Irish medical devices industry. Innovation Zed a company which has a research and development in NovaUCD, a research centre for new ventures and entrepreneurs. The research centre is affiliated with University College Dublin. A new product has been produced by Innovation Zed, called Insulcheck. This is a clip-on device which allows a patient with diabetes to monitor their insulin checks on the go. This will have great implications for patient care because healthcare professionals will be able to check how the patient has been taking their medication. This is one of the biggest problems with diabetes care at the moment. Doctors do not know how often patients administer their medication. This small clip-on device will give GPs and Healthcare professionals a way to monitor administration behaviours of the patients giving them the ability to cater the treatment strategy to patients behaviour.
